What is ToText?
ToText is an iPhone and iPad app that records or imports audio and turns it into a transcript, a summary and a list of action items. You can also ask questions about a recording and get answers based on the transcript. It is published on the App Store by Eyal Ronen (Lovelace Loom) and launched in September 2026.
Compared with apps like Otter or the transcription built into Apple Notes, it focuses on two things: privacy, since no account is needed and recordings and transcripts stay on the device (with optional iCloud sync), and search, since every saved recording becomes searchable text you can query in plain language.
Main Features
- Recording and import: record through the microphone or import existing audio files
- Transcription in 60 languages: automatic detection, or a primary language plus a second one for mixed conversations
- Summary and action items: an overview of the recording with the commitments it found
- Questions about a recording: answers based on the transcript, with cited timestamps to replay
- Searchable library: full-text search, tags, favorites and sorting by date or length
- Export: a PDF with summary and transcript, or plain text to copy
How Does ToText Work?
You record a meeting, a lecture or an idea, or import an audio file. When the recording ends, the app shows the summary and action items first, then the full transcript with speaker labels and word highlighting during playback, when available.
For transcription and generated text, the app sends temporary copies of the audio and text to external providers: uploaded audio is deleted about a minute after processing, while the library stays on the phone. ToText does not translate: transcripts stay in the language spoken. As with any automatic transcript, names, numbers and commitments should be checked against the recording.

Final Verdict
ToText is a good choice for iPhone users who want to transcribe and query their recordings without creating an account.
